Asparagus Crowns
Demand for local asparagus is increasing as more consumers discover the superior
flavor of freshly harvested asparagus Make sure all perennial weeds are killed before
planting. Dig a trench 6-8 inches deep and a foot wide, place the crowns at the bottom
of the trench with the roots spread out. Green varieties should be planted 12 inches
apart while the recommended spacing for purple Passion is 8 inches. Cover the plants
with two inches of dirt. For the next six weeks gradually cover the plants as new spears
emerge until the trench is filled.
