June Bearing

June Bearing varieties will only fruit for one period each summer. In our northern locales, this is traditionally from June-July. Each variety will make it’s flowers in May, and then 30 days later those flowers become strawberries.

Cavendish (MA)

Cavendish Origin: Kentville, Nova Scotia The most popular variety in the northern third of Minnesota has large, dark red fruit, high yields and good flavor. Fruit is good fresh, in pies and in jams. Fruit may not color fully if nights stay above 65° F as the fruit ripens. Plants have moderate vigor.

Honeoye (MA)

A hardy and highly productive variety with good plant vigor. Both leaves and fruit are disease resistant. Moderately sized fruit is dark red.

Jewel (MA)

Jewel Origin: Geneva, New York The most popular variety in southern Minnesota. Plants are vigorous and tall, but moderately susceptible to winter injury. Fruit is large and bright red. Handles heat during picking better than other varieties. Moderately susceptible to leaf spot.

Cabot (MA)

Cabot strawberry is known for its huge berries, excellent flavor, winter hardiness and disease resistance. It is by far the best-tasting big berry ever! Our customer survey indicates Cabot is best adapted for northern locations and where very large fruit size is required.

Darselect (MA)

Darselect Produces large dark red, almost purple fruit. Plants have moderate hardiness and leaves are susceptible to powdery mildew

Flavorfest (MA)

Flavorfest Origin: USDA, Beltsville, Maryland Produces bright red, irregular shaped fruit with good flavor. Plants are vigorous and hardy.

AC Wendy (MA)

A productive, hardy variety that is the first to ripen. The conical dark red fruit is low in acid and scores high in taste tests. Susceptible to leaf spot and leaf scorch. Due to early blooming, flowers are susceptible to frost and should not be planted without frost protection

Annapolis (MA)

Annapolis Origin: Kentville, Nova Scotia A vigorous hardy variety that ripens shortly after Wendy. Both plants and fruit are relatively resistant to diseases. The conical, light red fruit stores well, and fruit production stays high even during hot weather.

Galetta (MA)

Galetta Origin: North Carolina State University A productive early variety with dark red fruit that cap easily. Galetta is susceptible to winter injury and performs best in the southern third of Minnesota and points south.
