Polana is a fall-bearing raspberry from Poland that opens up early primocane production for more northern growers. Ripening at least three weeks earlier than Heritage, it starts producing medium-large, glossy red berries by late July in southern Wisconsin and early August in southern New England. This early timing helps fill the gap between traditional summer reds and later fall varieties, giving you marketable fruit when other plantings are slowing down.
Plants are hardy and productive, with strong, vigorous canes that stay relatively short and are easy to manage. Berries are firm, cohesive, and well suited for fresh sales, freezing, and processing, with good flavor when picked fully ripe. To reach its full yield potential, Polana responds well to extra fertilizer in May and June, especially in heavier-bearing plantings. For growers looking to push fall raspberries into cooler regions or simply extend the season, Polana is a great early fall choice.
