Samdal Elderberry

Plants are vigorous, producing long shoots from the ground the first year, that will bear fruit the following year.  Like raspberries, the old canes are removed after fruiting and replaced by current year growth.  Large fruit clusters ripen in August each year.  Samdal is the more productive variety, but both are required for cross-pollination in a ratio of 1 Samyl : 5 Samdal.
