A new hardy and productive variety. A good variety for
growers with little or no frost protection. Fruit is
round, dark red and flavorful but can become soft
during hot weather.

Sonata strawberry is from the Dutch breeding program, Fresh Forward and Burt Meulenbrook the breeder. This variety comes from a cross of Elsanta and Polka, two high performing Dutch varieties. Sonata expresses good plant vigor and shows tolerance to Angular leaf spot (Xanthomonas fragariae) as well as good winter hardiness. Sonata is productive and produces large, uniform, conic-shaped berries that are glossy bright red. We highly recommend planting Sonata based on its high performance. For best results, good rates of magnesium and nitrogen are required.
